About Custom Fit Training


Patrick Kinney, CSCS, NSCA-CPT

"To know me as a  trainer, you should understand that I am, at my core, a teacher. I taught various grades from 1999 to 2011, and even as early as 1996, when I was still in college, I tutored young people from a nearby neighborhood as part of a mentor program.

It was during these years that I learned how to connect and communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds, which served me well when I left the local school system and became involved in coaching CrossFit classes in Ashburn, VA, where I lived until moving to Massachusetts in 2015.

For the first time, I saw that my role as a teacher could literally change a person’s life for the better, which only fueled my passion for working in the fitness industry. As I continued to grow my expertise in the field, I began working towards owning a fitness studio of my own, where I hoped to lead others to a lifetime of fitness.

When I’m not training others, exercising myself, or working to further my education, I like playing with noisy things, like guitars and drums, but enjoy the peace and quiet of books just as much. I’m also learning to enjoy my new home in New England and am especially having fun exploring the nearby beaches and mountains." - Patrick Kinney

  • NSCA Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
  • Functional Movement Screen certified
  • USAW Level 1 certified (USA Weightlifting)
  • Attended the following CrossFit certificate classes: Level 1, Level 2, CF Kids, Gymnastics, Mobility, Kettlebell, Olympic Weightlifting

  • Coached youth soccer, middle-school basketball and lacrosse, and high-school lacrosse


Customized Training

I found exercise was my feel-good drug a long time ago. But I always did my own thing. Since I started working out with Patrick a couple of years ago, I feel stronger than ever. An Unlikely "Fitness" Story

When I arrived at Custom Fit Training, I was a true skeptic and pulled no punches (pun intended) about what I needed from my fitness experience. Little did I know that I would get much more than I signed up for. What sets Custom Fit Training apart from a traditional gym experience is what Patrick puts into it. He made it clear that he's interested in working with those who want to make positive changes in their lives, and that he would give it everything he's got to help them succeed at those changes. Focus on Avoiding Injury

Because I'm not as young as I used to be, my concerns were in avoiding injury while still getting results from my training. Patrick's focus on proper biomechanics during each exercise as well as his customized modifications of the exercises ensured I could continue my training injury free. As a chiropractor, I appreciated seeing this emphasis on safety and quality of movement. Patrick's holistic approach to training is far superior to any other coach I've experienced. –  Leanna

Aging and Lack of Mobility

As an older athlete, I discovered mobility (or lack thereof) was undermining my fitness perhaps more than any other factor. Patrick's knowledge of how the body should work and then helping it work that way was instrumental to my progress not only as an athlete but in basic everyday movements. As a result, I can do movements I could not do in my twenties (like overhead squats) and am moving more efficiently all around.
